SCCTC Awarded $2 Million Grant to Launch SalineSync Workforce Training Consortium

Benton, AR—The Saline County Career Technical Campus (SCCTC), in partnership with Arkansas State University Three Rivers (ASUTR), has been awarded a $2 million Higher Industry Readiness through Educational Development (HIRED) grant from the Arkansas Department of Commerce. During a press conference on Thursday, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the award, marking a transformative step forward in workforce development for Saline County and the surrounding region.

This significant grant will fund the launch of SalineSync, an innovative workforce training consortium to address labor shortages and drive economic growth. SalineSync will establish a comprehensive career pathways initiative integrating career exploration, advanced skills training, and active industry collaboration.

Building on SCCTC's proven foundation and ASUTR's workforce training expertise, the consortium's flagship project will be the creation of the Aerospace and Defense Regional Focus Center in Benton, Arkansas. This new center will provide specialized training programs tailored to meet the needs of the aerospace and defense industries, equipping students with the skills required for high-demand, high-wage careers.

Investing in the Future Workforce

"The launch of SalineSync is a testament to the growth and innovation we've fostered at SCCTC," said Scott Kuttenkuler, Vice Chancellor for SCCTC. "This grant allows us to build on the support of Saline County residents to create a sustainable and qualified workforce, ensuring opportunities for future generations."

SalineSync's mission is to develop a robust talent pipeline that spans youth workforce readiness, high school skills training, post-secondary education, and adult-focused workforce programs. ASUTR Chancellor Steve Rook emphasized the initiative's strategic approach: "This tiered, skills-based training model aligns with immediate workforce needs while supporting long-term development. With industry input, SalineSync will expand SCCTC's offerings and introduce new training tracks tailored to the region's most in-demand careers."

SCCTC has experienced significant growth since its establishment, increasing from 400 students to over 750 in just three years. In addition to its high school programs, SCCTC offers two traditional college programs and serves as the host location for the Central Arkansas Law Enforcement Academy. Saline County Judge Matt Brumley underscored SCCTC's forward-thinking mission, stating, "SCCTC was never intended to be stagnant—it's designed to evolve and continuously improve to meet the needs of Saline County and beyond. Today's award is another step in fulfilling the promise made to the citizens of Saline County"

Innovative Training Programs

SalineSync will launch several targeted training tracks, including:

  • CNC Machining:Integrated into high school, college-credit, and workforce training programs.

  • Precision Electrical Terminations: Designed for the aerospace industry.

  • Structural Sheet Metal Assembly: A non-credit workforce training option.

  • Advanced Manufacturing: A for-credit program for high school students.

Industry Collaboration and Support

"The aerospace industry faces a critical shortage of skilled workers," said Mark Bremer, Vice President of Industrial Programs at Dassault Falcon Jet and Arkansas Aerospace & Defense Alliance President. "SCCTC’s proactive approach, supported by the HIRED grant, positions SalineSync to fill this gap by developing specialized curricula and acquiring advanced equipment to train a skilled workforce.” Bremer also noted that SCCTC has actively engaged with industry partners through collaborative discussions and site visits, which have informed the vision and structure of SalineSync.
