Health Science Division

Health Science Division Mission

The Health Science Division mission is congruent with ASU Three Rivers’ mission. The Health Science Division’s mission is to provide high-quality nursing education that prepares students to excel in their careers while continually identifying and addressing the changing learning needs of the communities we serve. We are dedicated to fostering a dynamic learning environment that emphasizes clinical judgement, compassionate care, and lifelong learning, ensuring our graduates are equipped to meet the evolving challenges in healthcare and contribute positively to the health and well-being of the populations they serve.

Health Science Division Core Values

The Health Science Division core values guide our purpose and direction. These core values include lifelong learning, integrity, diversity, caring, dignity, professionalism, respect of others, accountability, evidence-based practice, and communication.

Health Science Division Philosophy

The philosophy of the Health Science Division guides the faculty to provide quality education opportunities to students in our surrounding service area, as well as other parts of Arkansas, with the ultimate goal of meeting the health care professional demands in their communities.

The faculty believes that learning is individual, self-directed, and a lifelong process. Learning results in a change of behavior due to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Learning is built on prior knowledge and the student's own experience in a learning environment in the past.  As the student's knowledge base grows, changes in skills and attitudes will occur.  Faculty's utilization of various teaching strategies will assist the student in the learning process.  Students have the responsibility of learning and taking accountability for achievement of the educational outcomes.

Nursing education is a dynamic process by which the faculty engages with the student to accomplish program and student outcomes.  Students will gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed in their respective health care provider role.  The student and educator must work together to achieve the Health Science Division’s goals.  Evidence based practice is integrated throughout the nursing programs. Integration of classroom, skills lab, simulation, and clinical experiences assist the student in being prepared to function at a high level upon graduation. Faculty have rigorously reviewed and revised the development of the curriculum for both the practical nurse and the registered nurse. Within the framework of legal and ethical standards and within one’s own scope of practice for nursing; graduates of both programs of study, will provide comprehensive care to culturally diverse clients in a variety of health care settings.  Graduate competencies for both programs of study embed the core values throughout.

The Health Science Division philosophy is in accordance with the ASU Three Rivers’ mission, vision, purpose, and value statements see https://www.asutr.edu/page/our-mission. The Health Science Division provides two different levels of entry into the nursing profession:  Technical Certificate for Practical Nursing and Associate of Applied Science Degree for Registered Nursing.
