Academic Advising

Academic advising is a service for all students throughout their time at ASU Three Rivers. All students must meet with an academic advisor prior to the start of each semester to register for classes.

First time students meet with an academic advisor through the Division of Student Affairs. This advisor will help students choose a major based on their future career goals, assist them in completing the admissions process, help them register for classes based on their major and placement test scores, help them build a class schedule that works around their other life obligations (i.e. work, family), and teach them how to use their degree plan to keep up with their progress toward degree completion as well as how to use other resources such as Self-Service, Blackboard, and student email.

All students are assigned an academic advisor from our full-time faculty after they have been registered for their first semester classes. These advisors are assigned based on a student’s selected major and will be the student’s advisor throughout their remaining time at the College, unless the student changes majors. This advisor will assist students with scheduling classes and making sure they stay on track with their degree plan. Students are encouraged to talk with their academic advisor about any changes in their career and/or educational goals as well as any life changes that may impact their academic performance or class load.

Academic advisors also assist students with dropping classes. Students may schedule visits with their advisors any time during the semester and are strongly encouraged to meet with them during Priority Registration week to complete their class registration for the following semester.
