Satisfactory Academic Progress Measurements

Maximum Time Frame
The US Department of Education has established a requirement that students receiving Federal Student Aid complete their degree within 150% of the time frame. Time frame is evaluated by the number of hours attempted.  Students who are unable to graduate within the 150% time frame lose eligibility for financial aid when the hours needed to graduate and the hours attempted exceed the 150% limit. For example, if your associate degree requires 60 semester hours to complete, you must be able graduate with no more than 90 credit hours attempted.

Pace of Completion
PACE or pace of completion is the quantitative standard for Satisfactory Academic Progress. The US Department of Education requires students to complete at least 67 percent of all courses attempted to maintain eligibility for federal financial aid. PACE is calculated by dividing the earned credits by the attempted credits. If you earned 24 credit hours and attempted 38 credit hours, your PACE is 63% and you lose eligibility. If you are not meeting PACE, an approved appeal may be required to maintain financial aid eligibility.

Grade Point Average
Grade Point Average is the Qualitative standard for Satisfactory Academic Progress. Students must meet the 2.0 cumulative grade point average requirement to maintain financial aid eligibility.
