Letter from Chancellor Rook - March 23, 2020

Students, Faculty, Staff, and Community Members:

We are in the midst of a unique situation.  In all my years of higher education, I have never experienced anything like this.  On behalf of the administration and the Board of Visitors at Arkansas State University Three Rivers, I want to assure you our top priority is the safety and health of our students and employees.  With the support and guidance of the Arkansas State University System, we have taken several measures to minimize the spread of the coronavirus while still upholding our commitment to our students and the community.

All face to face college classes have moved to online delivery and will continue as such through the rest of the semester.  Secondary Career Center students will move to online delivery after Spring Break until the Governor reopens school districts. Help Desk services and online tutoring are available. Some computer labs on campus will open after Spring Break for student usage; including labs in the Arts and Sciences Center and Health Sciences building. The Eagles Nest is closed until further notice and the ASU Three Rivers Library will be open to faculty, staff and students ONLY also until further notice. Social distancing and constant sanitizing will be practiced in the labs. Our campus is closed this week, during Spring Break, for deep cleaning and sanitizing.  All staff are working remotely except for those executing critical functions. Some programs may require small group meetings on campus for labs and clinicals.  For those occurences, all precautionary measures will be taken in accordance with CDC guideline.

After Spring Break, all faculty and staff will work remotely except for essential personnel.  Before you come to campus, please call the office you intend to visit to see if it is open.  The best way to communicate to our offices is through email.  Critical email addresses can be found on previous posts of Facebook, Twitter and COTO.edu.

All community activities and community meetings will be suspended until further notice. Additional cancellation notices have been sent to relevant parties.

I would like to thank all of our faculty for their hard work, creativity, and urgency.  We have asked them to turn their classes upside down in a matter of days.  My appreciation also extends to our students as well.  They have been cooperative and understanding.

The ASU Three Rivers administration along with the ASU System staff are constantly communicating and evaluating the situation. Things may change and we ask that you continue to be patient and understanding.  Watch Facebook, Twitter, and our webpage for updates.

My sincere best,

Dr. Steve Rook
